Yemassee is a small incorporated town in the western reaches of Beaufort County, straddling the line with Hampton County along US-17 and US-21 near the historic Point South interchange. It grew up around the railroad, and the restored Yemassee Amtrak depot still serves as a rail stop today, one of the few remaining passenger rail links in this part of the Lowcountry. The town sits close to the ACE Basin, one of the largest undeveloped estuaries on the East Coast, giving the surrounding area a genuinely rural, low-density character compared to the coastal towns closer to Beaufort. Housing in and around Yemassee ranges from older homes near the historic downtown to more scattered rural properties along the highway corridors leading toward Sheldon and Walterboro. US-17 and US-21 converge near Yemassee, with the historic downtown and Amtrak depot sitting just off the main corridor and rural properties spreading out along the highways in both directions toward Sheldon and Hampton County. Work here tends to be residential — older-home renovation, yard debris cleanup, and occasional storm cleanup given the area's proximity to the ACE Basin's low-lying land. Because Yemassee is one of our farthest stops, we usually confirm delivery windows a little further in advance than closer-in towns, and we plan the route around Point South traffic.

On private property — a driveway, a yard, a job site — you will not normally need a permit anywhere in Beaufort County, and that covers the large majority of our Yemassee deliveries. What matters far more is whether the surface can take the weight and whether the truck can physically get in.

• Access. Our truck needs roughly 60 feet of straight approach and about 23 feet of vertical clearance to raise the hoist. Mature live oaks and low service drops rule out the bigger containers on plenty of older streets.
• Hurricane season. June through November is the real seasonal risk here — tropical storms, heavy rain and storm-surge flooding can affect delivery and pickup timing. Tell us if you are working around a storm window and we will plan the schedule accordingly.
• High water table and sandy soil. Much of Beaufort County sits low and close to the marsh. Soft, sandy ground near tidal areas needs boards or plywood under the container more often than a firm inland driveway does.
• Summer heat. Asphalt softens badly on a hot, humid July afternoon. We book morning deliveries where we can and always put boards down.
